Dubai is Constructing a Giant ‘Moon’? Here’s What We Know About the $5 Billion Project

Every few months, rumors resurface about a $5 billion mixed-use building shaped like the moon coming to Dubai. Social media fuels the speculation, even suggesting possible locations for the project.

Sameer Lakhani, Managing Director of Global Capital Partners, says, “The ‘moon building’ has been discussed for years, but any project must make financial sense before it becomes reality.”

Why the Talk Has Started Again

The latest buzz comes from a large empty plot in Dubai’s Tecom area—land originally meant for the canceled Dubai Pearl project. A real estate source says, “No official plans have been announced for this site yet.” This uncertainty has led to fresh rumors about the moon building.

Where the Idea Came From

The concept first appeared in 2022 when Moon World Resorts, led by Canadian entrepreneur Michael Henderson, proposed a 274-meter moon replica on top of a 30-meter building. A blog on Damac Properties’ website mentioned the project as a futuristic vision for Dubai, but no specific location was confirmed.

Since then, artists’ designs of the moon building have circulated online, keeping the idea alive. Now, with the Dubai Pearl site back in focus, speculation has grown—but nothing is confirmed.

Noraj Masand, Managing Director of Artha Realty, says, “There’s no official update on the Dubai Pearl site, let alone a moon-shaped building.”

Will It Happen?

For now, the moon building remains just an idea. Whether it stays a rumor or becomes real depends on developer interest and financial feasibility. Until an official announcement is made, it’s all just speculation.
