Abu Dhabi: The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has announced a four-day paid holiday for private sector employees to mark Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha.
The break will run from Thursday, June 5, to Sunday, June 8, with work resuming on Monday, June 9.
Working on a Public Holiday? Here’s What You Get-UAE
If an employee is required to work during the holiday, they must be compensated with either:
- An alternative day off, or
- Extra pay (their normal wage plus at least 50% of their basic salary for that day).
If a public holiday falls on an employee’s weekly day off, they do not get an extra day in exchange.
How to Extend Your Eid Break

With smart planning, employees can turn the four-day holiday into a longer break by using annual leave.
Option 1: Take 3 Days Off Before Eid (Get 9 Days Total)
- Apply for leave on Monday, June 2, to Wednesday, June 4.
- Combine with the holiday (June 5-8).
- Result: 9 days off (June 2-8) using only 3 leave days.
Option 2: Take 6 Days Off After Eid (Get 12 Days Total)
- Apply for leave from Monday, June 9, to Friday, June 13, and Monday, June 16.
- Result: 12 days off (June 5-16) using 6 leave days.
(Note: Exact dates depend on moon sighting and official confirmation.)
Important Reminders
- Check with your employer first – Leave approval depends on company policy.
- Wait for official dates – The UAE government will confirm Eid dates closer to the time.
- Plan early – Submit leave requests well in advance to avoid last-minute issues.
Eid Al Adha is a time for family and celebration. With careful planning, employees can enjoy a well-deserved break.
